AUSTRALIA’S FIRST AND ONLY LOCALLY MADE COVID-19 SWAB TEST KITS

3DMEDiTech has developed the first and only locally made Swab Test Kit for the testing of SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19). The kits include a 3D printed sterile nasopharyngeal swab, viral transport medium and a bio- hazard bag all packaged ready for use. The Kit is registered on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG).

Our 3D printed sterile swabs were developed in conjunction with University of Melbourne and Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity (Doherty Institute) Professor Deborah Williamson, Director of Clinical Microbiology, Doherty Institute, led a clinical evaluation to assess the 3D printed swabs for safety and efficacy.

3DMEDitech has won a Commonwealth Government contract to supply the Australian made swab test kits to the National Medical Stockpile with deliveries commencing last week.

Our 3D printed sterile nasopharyngeal swabs and swab test kits present an opportunity to reduce Australia’s dependence on similar imported products. We can also scale our printing quantities to address the clinical need in almost real-time

The trial was conducted at The Royal Melbourne Hospital Staff Clinic and the results were published recently in the Medical Journal of Australia.

 The kits will make it easy and safe for healthcare professionals to collect clinical specimens from people presenting for COVID-19 testing, and for the samples to be transported to testing laboratories.
